Profile: Sturman

Personal background
I live in Sturgis, SD. I thought this was a nice quiet little upper mid-western town, untill "along came August". (just kidding) I have always been interested by the possibility of extraterrestrial life, but only now am I able, in some small way, to participate in the search.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I do not know if extraterrestrial life exists, but I hope that it does, and I hope we find out for sure in my lifetime. With all the countless numbers of stars and planets out there, it seems impossible that here on planet Earth would be the only life. Transmission beacons should be as powerful as is humanly possible, and all they need to say is, “We are here". This is a short powerful message that confirms our presence and invites a response.
With most home systems out there running at only 15 to 20% of their capacity, it seems a shame to not use all that potential computing power for something really worth while.
Just the "hope" that a signal will be detected is enough to cause me to run seti@home.
