Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home to be part of a common effort aimed at the exploration of one aspect of our universe - to see if there are other intelligences out there. I am not over optimistic that that is the case. I believe that the Fermi Paradox is a strong (but not certain) argument against either the evolution of intelligence or its longevity should it arise. However, I believe that there is enough uncertainty in some of the assumptions in the Paradox that serious efforts should be made to search for evidence of possible extraterrestrial intelligences.
