| Personal background |
I'm an exploration geologist prospecting for mineral deposits; have a science background and an interest in searching for and discovering the heretofore unknown. SETI seems like a natural for me; I joined as soon as it became publically available and have been crunching WU's and cobblestones ever since.
If SETI is successful in merely detecting a valid 'alien' signal, it should immediately increase science funding in wealthier countries, promote long-term science/astrophysics experiments, change attitudes and outlook, and probably radically revise assumptions in the Drake Equation.
In the meantime, SETI has spawned BOINC. Most of the BOINC science applications are needle-in-haystack searches that would not happen without the distributed network connection. Any one of these searches, if successful, can potentially alter your day for the better. My hat is off to those, past present (and future), who developed SETI/BOINC and keep it running - on a shoestring budget.
Good luck to all! |
