Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I personally beleive that it is arrogant to assume that we are the only intelligent life in the universe. There is other life out there, but given the way we treat each other, it is not surprising that they don't want to stop by for a visit. Let's face it, would you want to visit a place where they killed each other because of different skin color or beliefs? I think once we as a species mature, contact will be made.

I think we can learn a great deal from another race, tolerance of differences being one of the biggest things. I think the dangers could be the possibility of one power group trying to use what is taught to create and advantage for themselves over others. Also, I am not sure that socially or spiritually we are ready to accept the fact of other life in the universe. When contact is made, it will throw the religious communities into a tailspin. I say this because of something I had heard said once. I forget where I heard it, but it was asked "Where do aliens fit into God's plan since God only created us in his image"

I run the SETI@Home program because I am hopeful that Man can mature and learn how to live together in peace, provided we don't blow ourselves to hell before that. For an example, I a fan of Star Trek, not because of the sci-fi aspects of it, but because I feel that it is an optomistic look at what the human race could accomplish.
