Personal background
I'm from Kalispell, Montana, USA.
My age is 66 and I started processing workunits for SETI@home in 2003.
I was in the U.S. Air Force in 1966 - 1970 and am a disabled vet, participating in SETI@home is a good way to continue to contribute.
I usually run 8 to 10 projects using BOINC.
I work with and on computers a lot, I enjoy photography (the digital age has really opened this up), I like the out doors (nature), I like art - both viewing and participation, I like (?) to exercise and go on runs (I use a wheelchair - legs are paralyzed) to maintain better health & strength, I enjoy getting together with friends to play various games, and I enjoy learning new things (is there any end to what you can learn? That's like asking is there an end to the Internet or to the Universe?! :) )
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because the Earth is like a grain of sand on all the beaches of the planet compared to the Universe. And, perhaps, one beach compared to our galaxy the Milkyway. Try going to the NASA website and look at deep space photos taken by the Hubble telescope that show hundreds of galaxies instead of stars in a tiny spot in the celestial sphere and you'll truly understand the term 'awesome'. Now, we only monitor for radio signals from our galaxy (a small portion of), so do you still think that humans on Earth are the only sentient creatures in our galaxy, and especially the universe, that are capable of the technology to transmit intelligent radio signals anywhere? :)

It is pretty awesome that there are people that have made the commitment to continue and maintain the SETI project and improve it year after year. And to create the BOINC project that makes it much easier to run SETI@home as well as other beneficial projects. Hopefully the automating function of BOINC will encourage more people to want to run SETI@home with BOINC on their computers, large and small, as they learn more about the wonderful galaxy and universe around us that we all are a part of.
