Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home for several reasons... My computer is always running, why not let it do something useful while I'm doing something else. Maybe the SETI-project will get lucky, a fool can always dream can't he?
If a positive contact is made, it will be the greatest discovery in the history of the human race since we learned how to read and write. I wouldn't want to miss being a part of it.

My view of this project is that it is extremely unlikely to succeed. The signal strength of an ordinary broadcast from another solar system will be so faint by the time it gets here, it is doubtful it would register at all. There are a great number of factors that need to combine in order for a signal to be sent with power enough for us to detect, possibly involving directed beams.
Though the chance of a hit is less than slim, I believe that the realization that we are not alone in the Universe will change the human race, and the way we live.

I miss the old "classic" 2D SETI-computation graphics for the new BOINC program. I don't like the 3D-thingy.
