Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am hoping to find intelligent life out there, because we're all buggered down here on Earth.

It really makes me wonder about intelligence. What is intelligence? How does one measure it? Are we intelligent? Plants intelligent? Where does it start and stop? Humans measure it based upon their own anthropocentric view — themselves as the standard. Meanwhile, they inhabit a planet with billions of other living organisms, that each seek to communicate, but humans don't hear it, see it, or understand it, so they chalk it up to "instinct." When a mother chimp snatches her baby away from a cobra, is that instinct or compassion or love? Why then do humans do the same behaviour, but call it love and intelligence?

Perhaps if we find intelligent life "out there," we can learn about our measure and see how skewed it is.
