Profile: Jim Winchester

Personal background
I live west of the Twin Cities (Minneapolis/St Paul) in Minnesota, USA.

I have lived through 41 rotations (Sol).

Currently unemployed, trying to decide what I want to be "when I grow up".

I am fortuante in that I vividly remember when the Eagle landed. I marveled at the images from the moon and that the footprints would remain long after those who were fortuate to walk, jump and even play golf would live.

I was certain that I would, by my age, have gone into orbit. It hasn't happened yet, but with the X prize competion now won, who knows...

I'll always be a dreamer, for the imagination is the seed of invention.

Jim
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I'll admit that one of the attractions is the chance for my laptop and my desktop to be a part of a network, functioning like a supercomputer. I just think that's cool.

I like the program and BOINC a lot. I have never had any conflicts with other software loaded or in the performance of any other program running. I see for myself that it truley uses only whatever capacity remains on my cpu, even spikes in other programs' cpu usage are evenly balanced by the seti@home/BIONC software. It is an elegant piece of software.

I also really like the screensaver - it's been a great conversation piece in the local coffee shops.
