Hello there, i'm a 31 y/o (well in 2004 anyways :p) belgian from a town called zelzate, near the dutch border, i'm a security-guard at a car factory near ghent , and got interested by seti@home quite some time ago, but at that time didn't have a powerfull computer , and was totally addicted to the internet at that time (just got broadband, discovered online games etc) so i never got around installing seti, because my computer never was idle long enough to do any work for seti. Now things have changed in that aspect, and a program on national geographic tv got me thinking about seti@home again, and here we are...

why seti ? : extra-terrestrial life... , well off course , considering the billions of stars out there , it would be presomptuous to think we're the only "intelligent" life-form, when we'll discover it is anybody's guess, how: i hope through seti@home, or we're all doing this for nothing LOL.
as for the benefits and dangers of an encounter, the benefits would be technological above all i think, considering the chance of our metabolsims and such being the same are very slim, the danger, well... they could be hostile (but we'll kick their asses independance day style :D )
Sending beacons..yeah off course,the question is more what kind of beacon and where to send it then the info on it, but i guess something to learn a language from our planet + where to find us, without proper communication no good contact can be made, can it ?
why do i run seti at home. in the hope of maybe being the one with the WOW! packet :p
