Personal background
I just started the Computer Networking and Telecommunications program at Stark State. As cool as computers are, I'm actually more interested in the phone system. It may seem weird that I'm turning my back on the "big field" within my major, but it's what I enjoy and we won't be getting rid of phones any time soon.

I've known about the SETI@Home program for quite a while, but I never gave it much thought. Then, I heard about the Stark State Geek Force team and decided to join. My computer may be slow, but every bit helps.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
While I don't discount the possible existance of extraterrestrial life, I've never felt strongly that there's something else out there. My computer is always on, so I figured I may as well donate my extra processor cycles. The power usage of an active processor over an idle one is minor, so there was really no reason for me not to help the project. Now it's more of a contest to see how much data I can process and how I can tweak my computer to get results with less processor time.
