Personal background
hey everyone. i am 22, from Southwestern Illinois, and am currently working on my master's in theoretical mathematics. i teach and do research for Southern Illinois University at Edwardsville (SIU-E), in addition, i also work as a waiter at applebee's.

as far as my hobbies go, i play as much golf and volleyball as possible, i read when time permits, i also play ping pong, tennis, basketball, and i am active in the math club at my university (i know, im a dork).

i've been interested in math, physics, chemistry, and biology for as long as i can remember. although many of my friends do not understand why i study as much as i do, i think that many of us who would actually read this webpage understand that i do study like that to expand my knowledge about the universe and to understand how it works. i personally believe that the key to all of this is math, which is why i have undertaken that as my educational focus. unfortunately, most other people do not share my same enthusiasm. but hopefully, if you are a prospective student (young or old) and have not yet decided on a major, i hope that you consider math.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
it seems like i will be going with the flow and answering the "prospective questions" just like everyone else did...

1. Do you think ET life exists? If so, when and how will humans discover it? What are the possible benefits and dangers of such a discovery?

well, of course i think that ET life exists. if i didnt, i wouldnt be using SETI now would i? i personally think that humans will discover it, but i dont think that we will discover the kind of "life" that most of us perceive. i think that we will discover micro-organisms on some planet in our solar system, ie, like on one of jupiter's moons. we have already found water below the surface on (i believe) 2 moons already. this, to me, is a prime place to start looking. the benefits of discovering this are that we can gain a unique perspective on how our life/planet came to be and also gain an understanding on what types of places to look for more life. i really cannot see any dangers in learning more about our universe.

2. Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? If so, what info should we send?

i really do not see anything wrong with sending out a beacon, after all, we are looking for others to do the same thing. so do onto others as you would have them do unto you. i really do not see the point of sending information other than basic pictures of our civilization or pictures of what we look like.

3. Why do you run SETI@home? What are your views about the project? Any suggestions?

i run seti@home to be a small piece in the bigger puzzle. all i want to do is contribute to the effort that so many other great people are aiding every day. i think that this project is a great idea. i do not think there is a person on this planet who would not want to find out if there is life on another planet and this project aides in this search amongst other things.
