Personal background
My name is Carlos and I am a student of Computer Science at the University of Las Palmas (ULPGC, http://www.ulpgc.es). I studied as well at the University of San Francisco, and I took Summer Courses at U.C Berkeley. I was born in Spain in June 18, 1977. I went to the US in August 1996 after getting an athletic scholarship to play soccer for USF. I lived in SF for 4 years. I keep really good memories from the experiences and friends over there. I will someday go back to travel around and visit places, specially from the East Coast, from which I do not know much. I found out about the Seti@Home project by casualty, visiting a friend in SF. I was really excited about the project and the same night when I got home I started crunching data on my computer. I had a 200Mhz. laptop by then. Nowadays, I run a Pentium III 600Mhz. and soon I'll have a PIV 2.5 Ghz. Laptop ready to work. My goal for the Project is to help as much as possible. I would like to help analyze with my computer one of the important units. I am sure there's life out there. It is such an egocentristic idea to think we are so good we are alone in the whole universe. Someday, we'll find an extraterrestrial sort of life. I hope it is friendly and I hope to be there to see it happen.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
The Seti@Home project is a great idea. I think it sets a new and powerful way to have people became interested and to participate in projects. Everybody wins by these sort of projects. The processing power is tremendous so it gets done faster. Also, it could be used to help on the search of important issues such as antidotes, medicines, vacines..., etc.
It would be a great idea to use the same technology to find out how to cure disseases such as Cancer, AIDS, and other ones that affect people all over the world.
I run the Seti@Home client because I believe in the existence of Extraterrestrial lifeforms. When we will find them (maybe ... when they let us find them), I hope them to be friendly. Then I'll be happy to have helped.
