Personal background
I am a computer hobbiest, with great interests in all forms of science. I have for a long time had an infatuation with aliens. The combination of computers and aliens was definately, in my case, ment to be.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Statistics tell you that of course there is life beyond Earth. The question is how many INTELLIGENT life forms are out there. Sure there may be lots of life that we do not know about, even in our own solar system, but I doubt much of it is intelligent life. Some intelligent life may still be in a primitive state and have very little technology, or their society doesn't encourge technological advancements, or maybe even they can't hear or lack other sences that would make it possible for use to comunicate with them. Now what good is it to send out and search for radio signals when they can't hear? What if they only comunicate through light or telepathy. We are listening and not looking which makes most of the SETI project useless, However there are optical SETI projects popping up whcih should help out our search.

Now the fact that we are looking for something that is on a frequency that relates to hydrogen doesn't make much sence. Who would really think of sending a signal that has anything to do with the most abundant element in the universe? I think that part of SETI is not generalised enough. We are looking for some things that are just too specific. On the other hand, what if they did think of the same things we did, what if that way of thinking is more common than I thought? What if we are a very underdeveloped civilization and most intelligent civilizations are very very intelligent creatures. In that case we have a good chance of finding someone else out there. With so many possibilities and outcomes there is a chance that anything could happen. Because of any of those possibilities I don't think we should ever stop searching for ET's and should look into new methods of doing so. The SETI project is a pure form of scientific research and if because no other reason we should continue it to further science.
