| Personal background |
| I'm a 24 year old computer artist, I make 3D artwork for video games and training simulations. I live and work in Northern Virginia, about 20 miles outside Washington D.C. I've always loved Astronomy though, even when i was little, I liked to look up at the stars and wonder how something that seemed so close i could almost touch it, could be so far away. When i was little though, they were just twinkling lights in the sky. Now I can see images returned from Hubble and see what kinds of wonders are waiting to be discovered. Just to imagine what kinds of colors might be seen in the sky from a planet in the middle of the Eagle Nebula or what 100 suns would look like from surface of another in a globular cluster. In a way, i guess thats how an intrest in art and science blend for me. The stars captivate me, they make me wonder and imagine. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
| I run Seti@Home because this is my chance to participate in what I believe would be my second passion in life, if i hadn't persued art. First contact would be the single greatest discovery of our history. Our planet is only one, in a single solar system, in a single galaxy. There are billions of galaxies, and trillions of solar systems and I'm sure we'll come to the conclusion that there are trillions of planets as well. Life must exist somewhere else. Some questions make this project extremely challenging though, does Intelligent life exist elsewhere? If so are they looking too? Do they want to be found? Are they so far away that we don't yet have the technology to detect thier signal? Are they sending a signal at all? and if so, is radio signals the way to find them? My answer to all these questions is,.. You'll never know if you don't try. Thank you for trying, and giving me the opportunity to help. One day I believe we will find a signal, whether it's radio or optical, or some other method we haven't even thought of yet. Next year or 500 years from now, it will be found, and it will be great. |
