Personal background
I've been using computers since the late 70's .. my first system was a CPM based system. I remember one of my first computers was an Osborne. I could run that thing off of a car battery and had an acoustic modem. I used to drive up to telephone booths and log on to the Source via tymnet. People thought i was some kind of spy! I have always been interested in science and science fiction. As Mulder says, I want to believe! .. i find it utterly impossible that we could be the only sentients in the universe. I'm 54 years old and am a "professional nerd/geek". If I had been born 20 years later I probably would have been Sally Ride .. I have always wanted to go into space. I remember watching the moon landing and declaring that I wanted to be an astronaut .. I remember being told that girls cant be astronauts .. sigh.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Like i said, i find it improbable that we are the only sentients in the universe. I have a feeling that "they" will discover us before we discover "them" .. if they havent already. I've of two minds on sending out an invitation .. considering that anything that finds us will most likely be technologically superior I throw a little caution in .. I wouldnt put all my cards on the table .. I run Seti@home because as i said, i want to believe!
