Personal background
30 something mid level executive from Chicago. Ba/ma/mba from the University of Chicago. I manage a manufacturing and wholesale distributor of computer components. Outside of cycling and scuba, my favorite pastime is remoldeling my old house. Seti is a great program outside of its usefullness to trackdown possible signs of intelligence outside our own planet because it lets me know my PC is running as fast as possible. I know if I can complete a job on the main pc running SETI in 3 hrs then there isn't any useless BONZI BUDDY type program eating me alive. :)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I hope life and intelligent life exists outside of this planet. When I think about the useless atrocities we commit against each other I question if there is intelligent life on this planet and I sure hope that we are not the shinning example advanced intelligence in the universe.

The dangers are they may think us as retarded and enslave us or eat us. They may have a different type of society where the Democrats will feel an urge to liberate them and set-up ETACLU or they may have a useful natural resource where the Republicans will immediately ask for a pipeline to be built. Of course if they don't have guns we will have to supply them.

Sadly, I feel that intelligent life knows we are here. They probably do hear us, but are ignoring us given our assinine behavior. After all, if mankind came knocking at your door....would you open it??? I think we must look like the trailer park of the galaxy to others. Our beacons, for now, are a warning sign to others.

Bleak opinion aside, I would love to know for sure if intelligent life exists outside Earth and if they are more developped. I run SETI to help find out. Reaching out shows that some have hope for the human condition and are seeking new contact to improve ourselves.
