Personal background
I live in Plano TX. I was born in 1954 and so had the pleasure of the Mercury, Gemini and Apollo programs (Not to mention the Shuttle and Hubble). Did you know that the Etymology of "Gemini" is: Latin (genitive Geminorum), literally, the twins (Castor and Pollux).

I play a Hofner 500/1 McCartney Bass, the Piano and am a graphic artist / programmer by trade.

My current thought: When the tv show "The Outer Limits" broadcast it's first episode, the first words were "There is nothing wrong with your television set... Do not attempt to adjust the picture". Now I know this had to have happened somewhere: Some older couple was watching this new show and their TV set REALLY went on the fritz at the moment the show started. So they hear the guy, but the horizontal or vertical hold are really messed up and the picture is not viewable. They are then told by the announcer "for the next hour, sit quietly and we will control all that you see and hear". So that's exactly what they do. I imagine they made comments during the hour about how the show really was crap and how the advertisers are gonna be mad. But the announcer had said that they were "about to participate in a great adventure"... So they stick it out. Unfortunately for them, at the end of the show the announcer says "we now return control of your television set to you". But their set stayed screwed up! They are afraid to touch it.. Asking themselves "has it been an hour?". Calls to the local TV station ensue where the older couple threaten lawsuits unless the TV is immediately returned to their control. The techs have no clue.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Of course extraterrestrial life exists. I have no idea when or how humans will find it but I hope that it follows along the lines of Arthur C. Clarks "Rendezvous with Rama".

Benefits? Immeasurable.
Dangers? They may be the Klingons or the Rommulans.

Yes, Humans should transmit a beacon. What should we send? The Beatles "One" album.

I run SETI@home because it is such a worthwhile effort. Maybe I'll be the one who gets it!!!

The project should be more made more widely known.
