Personal background
My name is Ed Wagner and I was born in Phoenix, AZ. I have lived in Oregon most of my life, though. I now live in Texas with my Mom and Stepdad. I am 15 and I am a student at Billy Ryan High School in Denton, TX. My hobbies are video games, working on my computer, and participating in activities in the Texas 93rd AFJROTC. My favorite x-box game right now is Halo and that is why I am joining the Bungie team as part of the SETI at home project.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe there is a high probability that there is life beyond this planet. I think we will discover ET when we begin to travel faster that light and we leave our solar system to explore other worlds. We could of course learn more about science and the general nature of things, or we could just possibly end up "firing the photon torpedoes" so to speak.
I think that human culture is too complex to pack into a single radio transmition, we are bound to leave something out that could confuse ET and potentially make them hostile towards us. I think we should let them come to us and experience humanity for themselves.
I run seti at home because it makes me feel like i'm putting this useless piece of junk to work on something other than Counter Strike.
I encourage any scientifc endeavor that can better human kind as long as you are responsible about it.
YOU GUYS NEED A BETTER P.R. CAMPAIGN! You need to get the word out to more people in more ways. I know a lot of people who would love to donate some spare RAM to the cause if they just knew about it.
