Personal background
I could see the stars when I was young. Even the Milky Way was visible. Modern life has taken that away from most of us so we no longer wonder the way we once did. Some of us still do.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It would seem to be some strange cosmic joke if everything in the universe was just for us but that will remain our reality until we can prove otherwise. It is reasonable to assume that if life developed here, it developed somewhere else. The possibility remains that we may be looking for signals that just aren’t there. That will never stop the curious explorer in us from searching, looking and wondering. I think quite often about how the world would react to knowledge of life or even intelligent life in the universe and I think it\\'s safe to say that every culture, religion, government, and individual will react in their own unique way. Some will feel afraid or threatened. Many of their worldviews will suddenly come into question. That will be very hard to deal with for some. Others may refuse to believe it all together, even with insurmountable evidence. One thing is for certain, everything will change after a discovery so huge and the media will have a field day with it. It is my wish to be witness to such an event in my lifetime. In all honesty to myself this may be wishfull thinking. Whether we as a human society would be ready or mature enough to have such an experience is a valid question.

Running SETI@home screensaver is a great way for me to actively participate in the search and perhaps the greatest discovery of all time. Thanks to the SETI people for your efforts. May we all find what we are looking for.
