Personal background
Hi,

I'm an Electrical Engineer specialising in Process Automation, hence the interest in computing. I played with the GUI version of SETI for my first 20 or so results (and that REALLY slowed me down) I now use the Command Line Version which works out on the network I run at home to be at least 8 times faster. Newbies please note and switch as soon as you can !

Rather than a plain photo I've submitted one of my Shadow ! So you won't be blinded by my good looks (or so I didn't crack the camera lens whilst taking it). I charged up the ranks quite quickly at first but it's getting a lot slower now, I hoped to get in the top 10%, I'm there now so I've moved the target to Top 5% Maybe that will change too ! (It has ... I'm now aiming at 2.5% and for a home user I think that will be good enough). Ha ! that changed too I'm now in top 1.5% but we'll see what happens before we have to change to BOINC !

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
It's an important question. One that we don't know the answer to. I don't think we are anywhere near well equiped enough to answer it definatively so this is the next best thing. We should always be questioning. I've looked at some user's comments and I've thought "What a bunch of Nutters !" BUT ... we are all asking the same question aren't we ?

I also think that the distributed computing model is a brilliant method of chipping away at our ignorance, but I'm amazed that there are only 4M9 (4.9 million) current users. I guess that means that most of us (the world in general) "just don't care" !
