Personal background
I am 38 years old. I signed up with seti@home in 1999! I am currently the VP of IS at BC Technical Inc., a company that services and sells nuclear medicine gamma cameras. I live in Salt Lake City, Utah. I like outdoor activities, hunting and fishing, and of course being a computer nerd.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am a firm beleiver that extraterrestrial life exists. I think we will see proof within 5 years. I am uncertain of possible dangers, other than the track record our human race has shown with the wars that continue here on earth, we will undoubtedly piss-off the aliens at some point in time. The benefits are hugely numerous, just the knowledge that other life exists will change the way we think about everything. If they have more advanced forms of space travel, energy sources, and terrestrial travel, it could help with the quality of our atmosphere and the depletion of our natural resources. Hopefully we could learn of medical cures as well.

I think we should transmit a beacon, others may be listening just like we are. I think we should send flowery propaganda about what a cool species we are, and try not to let out how power hungry and blood thirsty we really are.

I run SETI@home because I want to help speed up the discovery of ETs. I think the project is valid, useful, progressing well, and should be funded by the governments of all the nations of the world because this doesn't just affect the USA, but all of Earth!
