Personal background
I was born and raised in NYC, and work as a computer programmer for a big financial firm. I guess I fit the normal cast of your typical, modern guy. I'm into action movies, computers, electronics, gadgets, and of course girls.

Living in the city all my life, I've never seen the night sky full of stars, but I know they're there. I've always been a big fan of science fiction, and have had a keen interest in science since I was a child.

As most people, I have a deep curiosity about life, and how things work. In the end, science is just our quest to understand who we are, and our place in this universe. Science answers the simplest, and yet most profound questions we have.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that extraterrestrial life exists. As for us discovering them, I believe there is a higher chance is that they would initiate first contact. We would probably contact them on their terms, not on ours!

The reason I feel that way is because I doubt they would want to interfere with our self-development as a human race. Just as we try to minimize our interference with the wild life on Earth, I believe a higher intelligence would feel the same obligations towards us.

There are dangers of contacting extraterrestrial life. Human history is rich with sad tales of imperialism and exploitation of others. Hopefully the extraterrestrial life would be sufficiently advanced socially, and respect mankind.

I run SETI@home because there is a possibility that "they" may be sending signals. My computers have a lot of idle CPU time, so it's not a big deal to help out as much as possible.
