Profile: Michael T. Johnson

Personal background
I am a 29 year old working in downtown Boston. I moved from the rural town of Lancaster, PA and was smacked in the face with culture shock of life in big city. Now I wouldn't trade living here for anything. My interests include sportbike motorcycles, camping, hiking, snow boarding and on the other end of the spectrum: computers, networking, blah, blah blah...
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
There has to be life out there. Most of the population of this planet can't comprehend the magnitude of the enormity of the "space" but more importantly TIME. (Most people are just awe inspired by the size of a football stadium or angry at a 2 hour traffic jam!)

It is selfish to think that everything is here for just us.
Carl Sagan wrote, "For me, it is far better to grasp the Universe as it really is than to persist in delusion, however satisfying and reassuring."

Our whole planet is a beacon for others to find. Everything that we broadcast will radiate out to anyone who could be doing the same as we are. If someone is listening, perhaps they've seen what terrible things we are capable of and don't want to contact us?

I run SETI@home because I truly believe that there is life out there, and a lot of it.
