Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
This project shows what a bunch of geeks and their computers can do!
The project has come a long way from its humble roots.
I like this project for its proof of concept value. While discovering ET phoning home would be really cool, I think that S@H is really about showing that science can be done in a large way by people who are lay people that simply materially support a cause. I actually hope that someday I get to deduct part of my expense in providing material support to these nonprofit causes. In the mean time I enjoy using this and other BOINC projects to fill my need to feel I have helped to do something greater for our world.
