Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
In my opinion the universe is big enough to have planets that have simular conditions as the ones we have on earth. It has been proven that there was primitive life on Mars. So animal life as we know it can be found on other planets. Whether that live has been evolved to intelegent beings like us is still a question that will need time to find out.

The only way we are gonna meet those aliens in person, is when we get out of our solar system or they are gonna be on ours. Since the last options will be kept secret by governments the first one must be the case and I think it will take more than one century for humans to pass pluto.
