| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Having flown since age 17, I can tell you that there's no doubt in my mind that there has to be other inhabited planets in the Universe for there's no way that this beautiful blue planet is the exception to the rule.
From 30,000 ft up Our Planet Earth appears to be uninhabited ,no life can be discerned directly and the only indicia of human existence is the physical modifications in the form of cities and roads AND RADIO SIGNALS...all indirect evidence of sentient life.
Compared to any other form of research SETI@HOME has the greatest chance of finding such indirect evidence of other civilizations/life and I think we should increase investment in this very worthwhile project.
I believe the passive nature of this project should be expanded to a more active role of sending targeted signals to try to elicit responses from other civilizations, the content of the transmission should include mathematical equations which should be the universal language of space faring beings such as ourselves.
I Run SETI@HOME because it allows me to participate in the most exciting endeavor of humankind and that is the search for life on the Universe. |
