I do believe ET is out there. Probably several of them. Logic seems to dictate this (just the sheer numbers alone) but, I always just seem to have a "gut" feeling that it is true.
Benefits are obvious... expansion of knowledge (medical, science). Dangers... well, who knows... if you believe in the movies then we had better watch out!
Yes, I believe a beacon would be something we should do. I think it should contain a message in a language code that is based on mathematices and with a message of peace and brotherhood.
I do SETI because it is a cool project and I like to feel I am helping... even if it is a little bit, towards accomplishing the goal of finding ET.
