Profile: Jacek Leluk

Personal background
I live in Wroclaw, Poland. 45 years old, free as a bird, Ph.D. at biochemistry, university teacher. Currently my major topic is protein bioinformatics.
That's my major hobby also. Other hobbies? I have a lot: music - I play 14 instruments (major ones are violin, piano and any keyboard) and write songs, some poetry, caving, judo, table tennis, painting... Except for Polish, English and Russian I speak some Japanese and Vietnamese. For me Japanese food is the best in the Universe! I am proud to be a honorary lifetime member of Tuscarora tribe.
My roots? I am mix of at least 5 different nations (mostly Polish of course).
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do THEY exist? Of course they do! It is just a matter of time to meet them. The only question is whether it will be us who find them or they will find us first (or maybe they did already?).
Will such confrontation be dangerous for us? Not more than we are dangerous for ourselves already.
Should we do something to become more visible to other creatures? Sure, but please do not hurt them! What information should be sent? "BEWARE OF HUMANS!"
As I know the terrestial species, it is not very likely to meet other intelligent beings that are more aggressive than we are.
I think this is the basic reason for which we are a little afraid of the first contact with UNKNOWN. The reason is - we predict that other beings may be as dangerous as we are.
Why do I run SETI@home? It is simple - because I have a computer :-) My views about the project? If I had any it wouldn't be so exciting. My suggestions? First let's just find them!
