| Retired from the Navy in 1984 with 20 years as an Aviation Electricians Mate. I am now retired as an Electrician / Electronics / IT technician, in city utilities systems for the "City Of Tulsa", Oklahoma. I have been interested in space all my life, I'm an avid "Treckie", as well as all the other Sci-Fi movies & shows. I'll date myself a little when I say I enjoyed Captain Video when I was a kid.(1949 to 1956) How much Sci-Fi of the past is now modern fact, the future of mankind will depend on the stars and the visionaries that look beyond our earthly bonds. |
| Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. Do I think we will ever make contact with ET'S? Yes, I just hope that I am still living when it happens. It would be very naive to think that out of the billions of stars in our own galaxy, and billions upon billions of other galaxies with their own stars and the planets they have around them, that we are unique as being the only intelligent life in the entire universe.
2. Should we try to contact ET'S? Yes, we already send a lot of "Radio Frequency" signals into space, why not a beamed signal pointed at a high probability area!!! When contact is made and the panic of the narrow minded population subsides, I think our earthly cultures will finally become more unified and all life will benefit!
3. Project Views? I think the SETI project is so popular (WITH OVER FIVE MILLION MEMBERS AND STILL CLIMBING,NOW CHANGED DRASTICALLY WITH THE INCEPTION OF "BOINK" BUT STILL AN ASTRONOMICAL MEMBERSHIP) because the common everyday person has the opportunity to contribute to something that is so much bigger than any individual. It is even a wonderful stepping stone that crosses all political & geographic boundaries. Just imagine how wonderful the world would be if all the governments could work together as well as the SETI membership has. |
