Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1)Well I think ET life does exist but I don't belive in all this crap about flying sources . I do not think we made a contact yet ( and we will not in close future , I hope ) .
But we should be ready to defend ourselves if need arise . It doesn't mean that any ET sentinent life a nesserally hostile but we should prepare ourselves for possible conflict: - Want Peace - prepare for war .
Even if the ET are not hostile I don't think the people of Earth will (and should) agree to the role of someone else's "banana republic" .
Theoreticly, if the Universe are trully endless and unlimited we can't reach "readynes" for every posible encounter , because somewhere someone will still be better equiped , more advanced in scince and probably hostile , but despite this pessimistic view we shoul do as mach as we can to be ready to defend ourselves and our unperfect :( way of life because our culture and our way of life with all it's downsides it's the things that define us as humans , not the biology and physiology of ower bodyes .
2) Based on all I sayed before it's absolutely clear that we shouldn't transmit any beacons .
3)Well the 3rd question is hard one , personaly I am not shure myself . Partly is the desire to be part of something , something important , something bigger then me , partly it's few unused old computers , partly childlish disire to acheave highe place in the table of results for myself and my country :)
