Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Yes extraterrestrial life exists. but i think there will not be a "contact" soon. Even if we find someone out there with the current technologies it is impossible to travel to meet them. And given the number of suns in the universe, if there is some life form able to travel from on sun to the other in "no time", the chance that they find our planet are really low.

the same holds for messages to the outer space... they travel at a limited speed so when a message arrives to someone out there it could well be that our planet/sun does not exist anymore...

I run seti because i think that it is really a peaty that my firewall running 24x7 runs idle 98% of its time. The same holds for my pc at home or for any other pc... so i try to let it do something useful. If someone came up with a project that needs cpu time for something more tangible than aliens (cancer research or dna stuff) i think i would support them instead.
