Personal background
Hi! I am an Italian astronomer, born in 1962. I study galaxy clusters and the large-scale structure of the universe, but I am happy to help my SETI colleagues with seti@home!
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
If space is infinite, there are infinite civilizations (and infinite copies of ourselves...). Otherwise, we can only say that the probability of the existence of extraterrestrials is not zero (we exist).
Are there advanced civilizations NOW in OUR Galaxy? That's the problem. I am quite pessimistic, but the implications of a contact are extraordinarily important: we have to try. So, good luck to the SETI team: you're doing a great work!
