Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Considering the vast area of space it is without any doubt that life does exist. Due to our limits in technology and understanding of physics the only way we will discover any evidence will be with radio astronomy. The danger of finding evidence is the fear factor; people in general fear what they don't understand. Considering the distance between us and the nearest inhabitable solar system, our time would be better spent learning more about the physics that would allow us to send a message faster than the light speed limit we presently have. I would like to see evidence to support extraterrestrial life has or does exist. I feel that the projects, is valid and needed. Suggestions: Most user crunch a block or two, and than get board with it, the attention span of the average user is lost due to the amount of time that it take to crunch a block with the average system these days. It would be perhaps more interesting to setup multiple levels of data for an individual to crunch Beginner levels that take a few hours on a P100 type system and leave the super crunching for the people with more advanced systems to do. This would give the user a feeling of achievement with the motivation to do more.
