Personal background |

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
1. I'm not sure whether ETs exist or not. I'm a Christian, but I'm also a scientist. I don't think that the existence of ETs would disprove the fundamental truths in the Bible.
2. Why not send a beacon? Our radio waves have been leaking into the cosmos for decades anyway. I guess that's all that's required to give any potential ET a flavour of humanity, of how varied it is.
3. I'm running SETI@Home as I just got some new computer kit and I wanted to know how many work units I can get through in a day! I think that SETI@Home is a very innovative way of using excess computing power. The average user doesn't need an AthlonXP 1800 like I have. When I want to play games, I switch SETI@Home off. It doesn't interfere with my day to day usage of the Internet. |
