Personal background
I reside in Western North Carolina where I work for a small Technologies company. I have the pleasure of working with a lot of the latest goodies. I am very big into Linux. I prefer the Slackware flavor over any. I guess I just like to do things the hard way. I do most of the Slack installs and setups on all of the new and old machines that come through my office. I enjoy computers more than anything. I also like the outdoors and I hunt and fish and just generally get around. Getting things done is a very appealing way of life to me. I don't just sit on my ass. I get things done! SETI@home is a good way to utilize your system. If I am not going to be here for 10 to 12 hours at a time then it is good to use the machine for some good.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
1. I believe that seti gives all people far and near hope that someday we just might get to meet or see another Life form! With a universe this big how could we be alone? I don't think that humans will discover other forms of life. I believe that they will discover us. The dangers are many. War and other dominating actions but as curious as we are about other planets then there must be others as nosey as us out there. We could benefit greatly from a true encounter. Technologie that we never thought could exist or medicines that could cure diseases for us. Anything is possible.
2. A beacon? I doubt that anyone could distinguish a beacon from all the other garbage that comes from our planet.
3. I run SETI@home because is a good way to utilize your system. If I am not going to be here for 10 to 12 hours at a time then it is good to use the machine for some good. I also feel like I am part of something huge that there are millions out there just like me who have hope of an encounter. I like being optimistic. I don't want to have blinders on.
