Personal background
Hi! I'm from the UK Midlands. I have spent most of my professional career as a Technical Author and am now retired. I am interested in electronics, radio communication, boating, geocaching and computing, and I consider myself a technophile.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am convinced that just on probability alone there IS life out there; probably intelligent life at that. However, communicating with them will be a major challenge because of the distances involved and the speed-of-light problem. For this reason alone we won't need to panic or be afraid if we do get that elusive signal. They will either be too far away to make physical contact or already be extinct.

Oh yes - the signal...

...Well, I don't think that it will come as an invitation or a welcome - more likely we'll pick up a broadcast or alien-made interference. Only time will tell.

We on Earth generate so many radio signals I wonder if there is any point in transmitting a beacon; any civilisation searching their skies will hear our noisy planet without the need of a beacon. I wonder what they must think of us!
