Personal background
I'm just your average, mid-south mother & grandmother who likes computers. While studying for my Microcomputer & Networking Specialist Diplomas my instructor introduced me to Seti@home and I have been scanning every since. I’m now. Realtor. . When I have free time I like to ride my motorcycles and spend time with my dogs. Rescues of course. I also enjoy anything to do with the water (scuba, swimming, etc) and the mountains (camping, hiking, trail running, etc). I also read, watch sci-fi, spend as much time with my family & friends as possible. Okay, so maybe I am not an 'average' , mid-south mother & grandmother but life is short and I intend on living it! (Yes that's me in the profile pic.)
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists? We exist don?t we?

What are the possible benefits & dangers of such a discovery? Benefits - The technology advancements that would need to be made in order to discover anything could be put to use here on planet Earth. Dangers - We will probably end up suing, squabbling and otherwise hindering anything good that could come of it. I dont think however that there are aliens lurking in the distant galaxies waiting to eat us, enslave us or steal our planet.

Should humans transmit a beacon for others to find? I think this one should be put up for vote by the human race. All those in favor say AYE!

What information should we send? I think it's a little late on this one. We send signals into space everyday. Radio, television, satellite signals are bouncing off the universe and probably causing some poor little ET to get bad phone reception as you read this.

Why do I run SETI@home? Because I am not afraid to dream or take chances. Especially ones that only cost me computer time which I am using anyway. The 'what ifs' in life have made us (the human race) what we are today. Without our dreamers, explorers and mad scientist we wouldn't have discovered America, chicken pox vaccine, and long list of things we take for granted everyday.

My views on the project? I can name dozens of other ill-spent government funds that I would rather express my views on but SETI is not one of them. Buying $9000 hammers is!

My only suggestion is that you keep this project available to anyone who wishes to donate their computers to help out in whatever small way we can. And if you find another inhabited planet name it after me, of course :o)!
