Personal background
Hey, my name is Kevin, and i am currently a sophomore at NC State University (GO WOLFPACK!!!!!) and i am studying aerospace engineering. I was born in San Francisco, CA, and i moved to Apex, NC in 1989. Ive grown up in Apex for most of my life so far, and i graduated from Apex High in 2002. I love music, and i play several instruments, including the french horn, trumpet, and the mellophone for the marching band (i am also a member of the NC State Power Sound of the South!! Marching Band here, and i marched in my high school band as well as the Carolina Crown Drum & Bugle Corps in 2002). My interests are astronomy (a given hehe), space science and news, as well as music, and most of all, God. He has blessed me with so much, like a wonderful family, lots of great friends, an amazing girlfriend, and the opportunity to study here at one of the best engineering schools in the country! Im not quite sure what i want to do yet when i graduate, but i do know that i want to get a Masters, and then maybe apply for Boeing or Lockheed. Maybe NASA, but with the way things are shaking up over there, i want to wait it out and see what happens, and if they can come out a stronger and more agile organization than before.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I really like the Seti@home project. It really gives the public an opportunity to help out in finding ET. I definitely believe that we are not alone, since the universe is so huge, beond anybody's wildest imagination, and if we are the only civilization, then it is a true waste of space (i love that quote from "Contact"). I really think that we should send beacons or some kind of signal out (if tv signals arent already a beacon) to the stars, just to show other possible worlds that we are here and we exist and we would like to make contact and interact together. I would think that we would just include information about our planet, solar system, and the history of our civilization. If (when) we were to discover such an alien civilization, it would be the greatest find in our whole history. We could possibly exchange knowlege, and both worlds could thrive on each others technology, since most likely we would have a technology that, to us, would be simple (like a car or computer), but to them, would be astonoshing and could transform their whole civilization for the better good, and visa versa. I am really excited about the possibility of finding another world, and the possibilities that can come from that. I really dont think that other worlds would be hostile, but more a mix, like our world. We, and them, would want peace and prosperity, but it doesnt always show. I am running Seti@home so that i can play a role (no matter how small) in what will be, someday, the greatest discovery in our whole history, and which will change our world (and theirs) forever.
