Profile: Archeon of Thrace

Personal background
Urban dwellers consume the resources that are extracted by raping and pillaging the land where I live. By living in the city, they both diminish and enhance my lifestyle.

They enhance my lifestyle because consumer market pressure leads to the development of products and services that ease my day to day life. Because products that cater to an urban market are manufactored and sold using economies of scale, in an environment of competition, they are cheaper and generally of better quality.

They diminish my quality of life in that the enormous quantities of energy and raw materials required to fuel and supply large competitive markets, are extracted and generated in my back yard, and even my front yard. The roads that are built to bring the materials from the bush to the consumer invariably allow the urban dwellers to invade my quiet paradise with ATVs, snowmachines, and SUVs.

Thus I am living like a man with two minds. On the one hand modern industrial societies products enable me to live where I do, on the other it is destroying the essence of why I chose to live here.

Maybe if we find others out there in the wide unending cosmos, we will finally come together here on earth, to create the social paradise we all hope and dream of. Where everyone can and is encouraged to live their bliss.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run seti@home because I want to contribute to a massive computational project that is disdributed all over the world. Personal computers, and the Internet were made for this type of project.
