Profile: Robert Ryan

Personal background
Always been a bit of a science and sci fi geek (long before it was fashionable). I've been fascinated with space since the day I was born (which happened to be the same time Alan Shepard was launched into space - the first time). Of course my profession is IT related. I live in the Chicago area, and I'm forty-one, at least I am as of this writing.

PS
The picture is 20 years old, but it seemed apropos.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think intelligent life elsewhere in the universe is close to a mathematical certainty, but of course finding such life close enough to communicate with it is another story. Personally, I'd be even be thrilled if extra-terrestrial mold were to be discovered in my lifetime.

I think it is our destiny to at least make the attempt at finding out what's out there, even if it is something higher on the food chain than us.

I support the project whole-heartedly. If we don't find anything, at least being part of the search is an adventure in itself.
