Personal background
As a network engineer I notice that many people ask for a faster computer when not even toucing the potential of the machine placed on their desk. Seti@home is a great way to use all those xtra CPU cycles, even for my own "too fast for my own needs" machine. I am excited to participate in any project that makes for efficient use of idle CPU cycles, as there are sooo many wasted every day.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think it is rather self-important for anyone to assume that we are the only lifeforms in this vast universe. This is a pretty big place to have only one planet with life on it.

I feel that it is interesting, however that we are looking for a signal from someone else when we are not sending out a similar signal. It could be assumed that another race of beings is out there listening as well, but if nobody's talking there is nothing to hear.
