Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I believe that we are one of millions of planets with life that exists. There has been and will continue to be planets with life and many must have evolved intelligent life. Whether or not we exist at the same time is the question. Contact is going to be a rare event. The vast distances between and/or time differences between us and them is the problem. A planet with highly evolved beings may exist but be in another galaxy and we may come and go before their signals ever get to us. Our only hope is another planet in our galaxy that is on the same evolution time frame as we here on planet earth that remains or has remained stable enough to send out signals we can hear. I'm afraid that if we found a signal today, I will not live long enough to get one back and hear a reply. My only hope is for proof of their existance. I feel we will find other life in our own planetary system way before we find another advanced life form. The odds are so greatly skewed towards the existance of life beyand earth that it is only a matter of time before we find it. It may only be organisms like we have had in our past without intelligence, but there is life out there. I like the odds.
