Profile: James L Jones

Personal background
I'm an early 40's graphics professional somewhere inside the Beltway, a place where I've been since birth having never lived outside of it. My hobbies used to be going to art museums and galleries, seeing art house films, having three-hour dinners with friends, spending enourmous amounts of time browsing book and music stores, but those all went away when my wife and I had our first, and then our second, baby. My hobbies now are watching Toon Disney, giving baths, buying ice cream, and trying to keep a 5-year-old in his own bed at night.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I think that the whole project if hooey, but it's fun to see how high I can get in the ratings. We have as much chance of finding other intelligent life in the universe as we do finding it on Earth. We couldn't find alien civilizations if they had enoumous flashing billboards the size of the Andromeda galaxy. If they're so smart, why don't we wait for them to contact us? Perhaps the fact that they haven't contacted us proves that they're really as smart as we think they are.
