Personal background
----------------------
I´VE STOPED RUNNING SETI@HOME AS A PROTEST AGAINST WHAT THE U.S. IS DOING IN IRAQ. I CANNOT HELP A PEOPLE WHO KILLS, DESTROYS, AND BRINGS FEAR TO ALL THE WORLD.

I´LL ENCOURAGE OTHERS TO DO THE SAME.
----------------------

I´m from Petrópolis, Brazil, 33 years old, I work as a system analist in my own software development company called SSS Informática Ltda.

My family are my wife Andréa(32), and the kids Amanda(12)
and Junior(8).

Since I was a child I loved to hear my father talking about space, planets, stars, black holes and interplanetary trips. My dad studied astronomy for the job of cartographer on site (what today is done by the GPS machines). He liked that so much that involved me and my sons, who used to talk ours about life outsite the earth. I like very much the books from Arthur Clark, like 2001, 2010, Rendevour with Rama and others. When I saw the book "Cosmos" by Carl Segan for the first time it was amazing to me with all that beautiful pictures.

I would like to see my kids having curiosity about all that, it is a pleasure to me to talk about that with them... Other day, Mars was very near the earth, we talked about that and sometimes Amanda looks to the sky and asks: "Is that Mars?" - pointing exactly to it. Is is good to see this interest in her.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I first heard about SETI in 1998, when my computer had not enough memory to run it. Only on the begining of 2001 I remembered to install it and I´m happy to be part of this project.

Yes, I think life in other planets outside our solar system does existe for sure. As said on the movie "Contact" - it would be a waste of space if it doesn´t have any life out there. I think SETI is one of the possible ways to find it, no matter how long it takes we should keep on listening. I don´t think of danger on finding new kinds of life, only benefits for both sides.
My doubt is if we will be abble to contact them, because some of them maybe living in another kind of dimension not reachable by the phisical meanings we know.

We have already send such kind of welcome message on Pionner 10, and I think that we should transmit others signals by radio. What to send? Simple welcome messages on every language known, information on how to find earth on universe, information on how is the human being, all this on every kind of possible computer coding.

I run Seti@Home because I have faith the humanity will find extra-terrestrial life in my life-time, and the little I can do to help I´ll keep doing.

Suggestion: I´m sure many people would be glad to help even more. Seti@home should get other kind of data, from other telescopes, and send for us to process, even if it needs other kinds of softwares. I think the distributed computing power is so big that should be more explored.
