Personal background
I'm 33 and living in Welwyn Garden City in the UK. It's a town about 20 minutes train journey from central London.

I work in IT for a large international company. I did try and convince the head IT guys to make SETI@home part of our core PC build, but it got turned down as a proposal. So there are still about 50,000 PCs sitting idle in my company most of the time, but hey, at least I tried!

My free time is spent down the pub with mates or watching films or on the computer. I really dislike football (soccer) which seems to be the UKs top TV filler :-(

Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am absolutley convinced that there is extraterrestrial life. I think the odds against it are just too large. Wether the SETI program ever manages to pick up signs of life is another matter all together. Maybe life is common but intelligence isnt? ...there could be whole worlds out there of nothing but little green plants :-)

I certainly hope there is intelligent life elsewhere, and the tantalising opportunity to help find it is the main reson I run SETI at home. Some of my friends think it's a silly task and I'd do better to spend my time in one of the other distributed computing projects - such as Cancer at home which could have an immediate benefit on the human race. But I think, hey, if we find an alien race more sophisticated than our own, maybe they'll just tell us the answers to cancer and a whole lot more besides :-)
