Profile: Multi-Dimensional Visual Echo

Personal background
Hello, I'm the Multi-Dimensional Visual Echo, and I live in Ann Arbor, Michigan, US of A. The name comes from a realization during too many philosophy classes at Central Michigan University that there are many types of universes... the physical one we live in, and the virtual one which is our perception of the physical one. I think the virtual one is much more important and tends to be much closer to reality. Unfortunately, most people would rather watch reality on TV, it kinda takes the edge off.

I try to write lots of computer programs and web sites so that people everywhere will pay me money so I can buy more computers, houses, cars, beer, etc. So far, I'm doing a lousy job, but my wife is happy. I like computer war gaming (electronic avatars don't mind being killed, they just sound that way in FM synthesized stereo), firewalling and electronic counter-espionage, assault weapons (I'm KIDDING!), bass guitar, home brewing (working on the perfect Michigan cherry pale ale), and non-lethal use of high voltage to discourage misappropriation of birdfood by squirrels.

I boldly stomp in clown shoes where demons fear to tread. Always overdo what cannot possibly be underdone.

Above all, and underneath nothing: remember not to forget.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
Do I think extraterrestrial life exists... hmmm... kind of a funny question, that's kind of like do I believe penguins exist. I've never seen one, but there sure are a lot of pictures of them in the magazines. To ask a belief in existance is to admit a possibility of non-existance, which is xenophobic and just plain sillye (yes, with a final E just to be sillier). Do I believe in ET? He told me to say no if I were asked, after all, extraterrestrial exposure is still against the law as far as I know.

A beacon for others to find? What, you don't think they already hear us? Remember all the old world maps, arrows pointing to the New World of North America. Uh huh. System of Sol, one known inhabited planet. Danger, headhunters.

Actually I think that's silly too. We hit an fair amount of oxygen and evolved with an internal skeleton from quadropeds. I would think on a gas giant, the self-perpetuating germs with silicon or ammonia based genetics might be more gaseous bubble shaped and propel themselves with their own flatulence. I really get a kick out of human shaped robots as well.

Let's get out there and mine the asteroids, we need metals harder than the crazy elements in the lanthanides. In the periodic chart, there's a small bubble of instability at technetium, and another larger one starting around uranium, but up higher and harder (our planet didn't get hot enough to make any of those) there are lots of stronger elements we can use... we just got to get out there and pick them up. Then again, if we can buy them from... well, nevermind.

Pax, amour, et medicamen.
