Profile: Paul Hayslett

Personal background
I am a self-employed computer programmer. For the past 12 years, I have been building and maintaining document management and workflow systems for publishers, with special emphasis on SGML and XML text management. I have a wife and 2 children and work at home (think Adam@Home). In my spare time, I swim, build robots, and brew my own beer.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I run SETI@home because I can't stand to see so many CPU cycles go wasted. I have been in the computer business long enough (17yrs) to remember when every cycle was precious, when an entire department was lucky to timeshare a 1 MIPS machine. The idea of Pentium systems running idle seems unnatural to me.
