Personal background |
I'm a fine arts graduate of LSU, currently working in the university's Mathematics Department and working towards an EE degree for kicks. I hope one day I can carry my computing and programming skills into a research environment such as SETI, even if it's limited to mopping up restroom floors with my code hardcopies. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
Per the questions:
1. Perhaps intelligent life outside of Earth exists. However the answer itself doesn't interest me as much as knowing we're taking the steps try to find out.
2. I don't believe we should transmit a beacon at this time. Or rather, if we do, it should be more of a "hello" associated with very basic information about us rather than a potential "How To Cook Forty Humans" manual.
3. I originally started my own SETI@Home crunching out of respect for SETI's goals. Here was an opportunity to be a part of something I couldn't be a part of in any other way.
Unfortunately my 99.1% jump over everyone else has diminished every since my harddrive began reporting bad sectors from dataset disk writes. |
