Personal background
Hi!
My name is Tim Watson. I am 22 years old and currently studying a PhD in Computational Chemistry at the University of Nottingham, England.
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home
I am certain extraterrestrial life exists. Even on a purely statistical basis there is a good chance! Of course there are dangers to coming into contact with these life forms (if they do exist ;-) ) but the rewards could far outweigh them.
Why not transmit a beacon? If another race finds it and likes what we send then maybe they'll come visit!

My main motivation for running Seti is to mop up those spare cycles I'm not using for my other calculations - I hate seeing processors idle!

Only one practical suggestion; reduce cpu time for the graphical display. Even on my machine, job time scales from 6hrs per unit to about 18 with the display running.
