I was turned on to SETI, the software, by various faculty members at Auburn. Alas, they have contributed much more time and results than I, but I do try to contribute. Peace and War Eagle! And, no the two are not mutually exclusive. Its an Auburn thing. |
Thoughts about SETI and SETI@home |
(1) As my father, a physicist, has said for years. It would be terribly arrogant of us to think that, in the vastness of space, we are the only life that exists. It would also be very scare, too!
(2) Sure, we should transmit a beacon! What's the worst they could do ... wipe us out? HA! If they receive the beacon, and can travel to see us, they'd probably avoid contact and watch us as a sideshow distraction.
(3) Some view SETI as a folly. My hope is that even the smallest of contributions will one day bear fruit! I don't believe in some bizarre view of 'Contact: The Movie' or 'Close Encounters' ... but, I do believe there are others out there. After all, why not search!
